Andre Reyes San Francisco Ballet Hoop Dance

Do I wish I had a context for all of this? Well... yes. The costume and punctuated poses were a bit silly to me (though, I am sure my humble opinion means nothing to a San Francisco professional ballet dancer) but the grace and the transitions were phenomenal. I LOVE foot hooping but it is the most difficult move to transition into - usually I am hooping and then clunk around and TA-DA it's on my foot.

He pulls it off much more skillfully. I always enjoy seeing hoop dance in a professional realm and this is lovely and inspiring.

Roxy Storm Hoops - Hooping Underground

Of course, I love the do-it-yourself approach to hooping videos - it's what most of us have to do, and it always seems to give the best viewpoint for seeing what happens. Set up a camera, hit record, hoop in front of camera. It's pretty hard to miss something with that set-up, and watching drops and 'mistakes' help show the process of learning to hoop.

But it is always beautiful to watch a video with a bit of production value as well. This video was beautifully shot and edited - and of course, performed! I missed this when it was posted last year. Really a pleasure to watch.

... Neck to Foot Hooping (in 1 sec or less)

Just one of the many things that are EPIC during this video. (Primary point of epic-ness being the glitter shorts... obviously.) The title move is at 1:00 min mark...

A Hoop Rock Opera

Multi-hooping, twins, and a crazy custom hoop that looks a bit like flat blades are protruding from the sides - this video is intense. Philo Hagen over at Hooping.org isn't sure who this hooper is - but I am sure that someone must know. I mean, check out 4:45min in - how does she do that with a ladder?

Science of Circus

Science = awesome. Circus = awesome. Doubly awesome indeed. There are lots of other great shots from this event, the Glasgow Science Centre Birthday party with Bright Night International, by Okaar on Flickr.

Irina Akimova at Cirque Du Soleil

AMAZING! WTF!
I had to repost this from FYH because she is just a bit too epic.  But uh, dudes, that singer? Has GOT to go. LISTEN to these song lyrics. Whaaaaat? So. So. So. Terrible. Horrible 7th grade poetry. But - hey, it ALL took more talent than I have so go everyone involved!

Video: Lighted Illusions @ HPV

This is a hoop. It's always a round circle spinning around the body. But - look at the illusions it plays on your eyes. Silently standing with twirlingflutterby and my hoop idol while we all watched this beautiful hoop play and dance was certainly one of the most memorable moments of an amazing weekend.

The Mad Hooper Needs a Bigger Stage For Moves This Good!

Now, this gentleman looks as though he is about to attend an office happy hour. But no. Instead he busts out some truly inspirational and awesome hoop moves that blow the mind and inspire the body! The isolation to vertical step through, neck arms toss,  and the beautiful twin body passes are just some of the formidable exploits he pulls off in this great video. Can't believe I've never seen this!

Hooping in Paradise

SO MUCH FIRE.
The hooping starts about a minute in but the whole video is truly lovely. After being inspired by the California trip I would love to get out to Hawaii to hoop my heart out... and maybe finally try Spam. Okay, I really will never try Spam, (canned meat product - ya can't make that sound good) but I hear they love it in Hawaii.

ShpongledHoops Practice

Love the mask, the effortless shoulder duck outs, and the knee reversals. When I move, I am determined to have a room just like this - completely empty! Maybe some hoops hung up on the walls and a music player in the corner and that's all. Well, I can dream.

ShpongledHoops - always hypnotic and beautiful.

Raw Art: Yu+ Na

Wait for it to warm up. Then be impressed. From the same people that put together this shining masterpiece that makes me want to tie strings to my hoops just to cheat a little bit. Seriously I know I have my James Lipton voice rocking again but Raw Art = holycraptastic yespants.

Too Many Circles To Count

Symphony of Silence by Shakti Sunfire

Beautiful, fluid, emotional, raw and real. Shakti puts it all out there and constantly strives for the next level in hoop dance - or rather hoop art. You can tell that she is beyond 'tricks' and now seeks to get something more expressive out of her tool of choice - a hula hoop.

Lovely.
