Colorful Patterns From Head to Toe

Floating and Flying Through Hoops

By Terra Kate. Photostream here.

Hypnotic Beach Hoop Dance

Mmm, when I am stressed out I am going to play this video just to listen to the relaxing background tones. What a different feel for a hoop video - low key, low intensity and relaxing.

Float....away....

Bend it Back

Remembering it's a choice

Though, I confess, I choose 'sarcastic' everyday. But, it's good to select it as part of a pair.

Musings on Hooping at the Airport

The German announcements totally add to this video. I love it! Reeeemix.

Anyway - I have heard of hoopers going for it at the airport and it is giving me hope! I leave for a long, long day of travel tomorrow and have a 3hr layover that would be sure to pass much more quickly if I could bust out my hoop!

I'll see what the crowd is like before I get started, though. Security wise, hooping at the airport doesn't bother me in the slightest; I am sure that if I was told to put my hoop away it would be no problem. It's the other passengers that I think about more because as weird as it may seem to non hoopers, sometimes attention is the very last thing that I want when I am hooping.

Hooping would totally make the security line seem faster
Alright, fine - what are folks supposed to do? Psychically read my mind and guess that the girl jumping, turning and spinning around with a bright hula hoop is not looking for attention? Not likely. It's not that I mind people watching me hoop - usually it's great! It can just be awkward in those instances when people may think that I am performing for money or attention when I am really just passing time. But, ya know, hooping is just a lot more obvious than playing cards.

Then there are the kids to think about. Nothing has magnetic powers over children more than a hula hoop. Sometimes it's weird to me that parents let their kids hang out unsupervised with the hooper even though they are a total stranger. Not that it would be the most sly of moves to attract kids with a hula hoop and then - I dunno - try and steal them (or whatever they are teaching kids in Stranger Danger these days.)

In an ideal world I can find a lil' isolated spot to get a few minutes of spin time tomorrow. I will need it with all that sitting, sitting, sitting on the plane. I am just going to bring one of my travel hoops with me, coiled down and hanging over my shoulder for easy access during impromptu hoop sessions.

But, I am bringing a pack of cards, too - just in case.

Hoop Hands

BollyHoop

I love that she takes traditional movements and seamlessly adds in the hoop to create something really unique and engaging. Sometimes it feels so hard to really dance with the hoop, but she pulls it off beautifully. I also want to do whatever the heck is happening with that foot pass @ 1:15 (ish).

What kind of hoops are these?  They look similar to the one's in the mystery hooper's video  and other 'circus style' hoop videos I have seen, but I can't tell if they are different or just thinner? Hmm...

Hooping Slowly in the Sky

Mmmmm I love how this feels like a dream world

Trying Out Some New Things

Ah, the hoop rest this weekend definitely paid off. Seriously, is there anything better than ordering take-out and watching movies ALL DAY? (No.) Here is what I watched, for no particular reason other than my recommendations for the next time you are browsing Netflix for longer than you are actually watching a movie. (That can't just be me, right?)

After all that vegging, I felt BEYOND ready to hoop this morning. I have a ritual before any 'big hoop day;' I clean my whole house. Is that weird? I don't know - I just always feel better when everything is clean before I start hooping. Hmm. Just another TOTALLY NORMAL thing I do.

Anyway, here is the practice from today. Just goofing off and trying a few new things.

Music Monday: Bass From Above

The music in my last two videos has been from this album. From the website they describe the project as:

"The first in a series of all-original exclusive compilation albums from SubSynthesis & GlitchDrop brought to you by all our favorite electronic artists and mastered by the Master himself (Bil Bless).

All proceeds of Bass From Above (Between March 20 and April 30) were donated directly to the Japanese Red Cross to support our disaster relief efforts there and to benefit all of those affected by the earthquake and tsunami throughout the Pacific. This is an extraordinarily charitable and generous cause and I hope everyone that enjoys the album will consider helping with the dire situation in Japan!"

Pretty rad, right? AND guess what? You can name your own price for the album when you buy it online. This has quickly become my  go-to for hoop practice because the music is great, the beats change up often so I never get bored AND (drum roll) YOUTUBE can't rip the music off of your videos! Hooray!

Check it out here. Every track can be previewed before you buy anything. Enjoy!

SuperHooper: NEON Poly pro

This is almost too well timed with the calvalcade of colors already happening on the blog today - but, it's too wonderous not to be shared. Super Hooper now has pink purple and orange polypro hoops!

Here is a picture of  a child sitting in them. Sure, why not?
Yes, I love them all. I can't lie though, I love my clear and simple poly pro best of all. Superhooper.org should have them on sale by this evening - sooooo if you are still buying your poly pro premade check it out!

I Really Need a Bigger Closet

I got the email from blackmilk this morning that these ^ lovelies are on their way! Soon I will need a separate dresser just for tights. I am usually not one to spend lots o' money on... well, anything... but the quality of their products is absolutely worth the cost. Everything FITS the way it should and doesn't fall apart within a week or month. These tights are made to look great and to LAST.

Plus. Look how awesome they are? Oh I love you blackmilk

I know I have gushed about them before but...here I go again. There are just WAY too many things that I am desperate to own from this place. My blackmilk wishlist:

baby doll dress + beetlejuice tights

cubism  + lace up

All of this would double as non hoop wear. The line between 'performance clothes' and 'errand running clothes' is quickly disappearing. (and i love it.)

 rainbow! I know - shocking...

hooping while playing chess. hmm?
maybe I would be a bit better at the game if I played it with my hoop confidence.

Everything in Place?

then let's start the show

Hoop Tutorials I WANT to Learn: Circus Style Moves w/ Jon Coyne

This morning, Jon Coyne was the featured tutorial of the day on hooping.org. Usually, I placidly watch the featured tutorial while sipping my morning coffee and thinking "yep, that's cool...anyway, next link," but after watching these I honestly found myself wanting to get up and hoop! Then I checked out his YouTube channel and saw the treasure trove of crazy circus style moves he has listed. Win!

Pizza Toss + Sommersault Catch

In the past few weeks I have successfully done the pizza toss a few times, so it gives me hope for this move. (But, I love that he has links to the 'prerequisties' in the video. Total bonus points on that one, Jon.)

Foot Hooping in Lasso Above Back While Bent Over*
(* awesome move...but it needs a new name.  Lasso back? Lasso bridge? <--- Because your body looks like a bridge while on the ground?)

Anyone else as inspired as I am? Now to navigate the wet grass outside to get a few of these crazy moves going!
