Good Advice

Are you thinking about doing a hoop performance? Know someone who is?

Now this cat knows what's up.
Many times new performers will agree to dance without pay at venues that they would normally attend like a club or show. Often times this can prevent folks who would hoop as paid performers from getting a gig.

I thought this was a great and helpful flow chart (yay charts!) about what to do if ever wondering should i work for free?

Ah, flow chart - thank-you for the good advice for, really, any line of work.

Great post. I loved the link to the chart, which is all totally true. I, (unfortunately) took a gig from a company under the concept that it was, "for future gigs". I ONLY did it because a fellow performer who I trust vouched for them. Fail. Epic Fail. Every now and again I get sucked back, and it's really hard to turn down what seem like legitimate opportunities, because if you don't do it, someone else will. That's the biggest problem, knowing other performers will do it for free.

sean - EXACTLY. That is why I think it is so important to spread this message. People think they are getting their name's out there but they are really undercutting themselves and the community.
